Profile

The Assistant Director of Marketing & Promotions reports to the Director of Athletics.
This position will cultivate, solicit and steward donors in assigned portfolio as well as coordinate and help execute events designed to enhance giving and generate revenue, work with specific sports on solicitation proposals, sell sponsorships and service sponsors.

The Assistant Director of Marketing & Promotions will also be responsible for the branding of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. and Pirate Athletics which includes marks and logos. This position is also responsible for maintaining the Pirate Athletics online store with sales and the tracking of royalties that are received.
Duties and Responsibilities
Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors with an emphasis on leadership giving levels.
Generate marketing collateral for special events, take the lead on all athletic fundraising events to help procure sponsorships (golf tournaments, dinners, auctions, and special events). Work with specific teams and coaches on engagement and solicitation strategies for special projects and needs.
Work with Marketing & Communications to coordinate social media and video strategies.
Be an active member of the Hampton Roads Community and participate at various civic levels to promote **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. Athletics.
Assist the Director of Athletics, developing an Athletics giving campaign in conjunction with the University’s Annual Fund Campaign.
Collaborate with colleagues to generate new opportunities for athletic donor acquisition.
Coordinates community outreach efforts to involve groups throughout the community.
Assists in the execution of corporate sponsorships contracts.
Plan and coordinate staffing and implementation of special events (i.e. Hampton Nation Annual Gala and Golf Tournament, Hall of Fame, and other athletic events).
Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to game activities and event management.

Reach sponsorship sales goals by securing lasting and high value partnerships with top partners
Drive full lifecycle of sponsorship sales process from identifying potential partners to contract fulfillment
Develop and maintain trusting relationships with key decision makers and respective advertising agencies of current and potential partners
Create innovative strategic partnership programs that exceed partner expectations and brand goals, aiming for integrated packages encompassing all mediums – experiential, social media, venue assets, etc.
Lead the development and delivery of proposals
Provide accurate, reliable information for sales forecasts and inventory management reports
Superb interpersonal skills and ability to build productive, beneficial relationships with a broad range of constituencies; excellent interpersonal skills, tact, and diplomacy.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including ability to effectively communicate
University priorities to donors and prospects, and to positively represent the University.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, to assess and order priorities, and to track details in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work to the demands of the position, which may often exceed a 40-hour work week, include weekends and evenings
High level of motivation and assertiveness, as well as an ability to exercise independent judgment.
Must be willing to travel (expenses reimbursed per University Policy).
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree
1-3 years’ experience in athletic fundraising, educational fundraising, or related field.
Knowledge and understanding of a Division I Athletics beneficial.
Knowledge of Athletic Marketing and college game day beneficial.
Proven proficiency in use of computers and information management tools, including social media marketing.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
Be able to lift up to 25 pounds and participate in physical activity required for events. Have reliable transportation, as some errands will occasionally be necessary. Have a professional appearance and demeanor. Maintain a positive attitude.
Qualifications
Excellent communication skills both oral and written
Excellent interpersonal skills
Demonstrate experience in development and fundraising.
Knowledge in Big South and NCAA rules and regulations as pertains to duties of this position.
Proficiency with computer skills using Microsoft Office
