Essential Job Duties:
The director of communications and marketing reports to the dean of the college. They design and directs the college's communications and marketing activities externally and internally. The director leads the development and implementation of the college's communications and marketing strategy to support institutional goals and objectives. They lead a team of communicators who work to enhance the college's identity, support students and faculty, engage alumni, align strategic communications and support fundraising goals.
The scope of duties includes the following:
Lead and manage the college's professional communications & marketing team
Develop, implement, and evaluate an annual strategic communications & marketing plan in collaboration with college leadership
Develop and lead high-level content strategy and creation for web, social media, print and other channels
Market the college in support of the university's overall communications objectives; coordinate strategies with university communications
Direct efforts to prominently position the college on the state and national stages
Support the dean's major communications: draft speeches as needed; produce the college's annual report; direct communications around major college events
Support and direct communications and marketing efforts related to the college's development priorities, including fundraising campaigns, special events such as Day of Giving, and stewardship activities
Promote and support the work of faculty, including research, engagement, publications and outstanding accomplishments
Support communications and marketing efforts related to student recruitment and retention; diversity; and student participation in high impact practices
In partnership with relevant units (e.g., Alumni Association, Development Office, departments, etc.), support alumni networking and engagement initiatives involving students, faculty, and alumni
Manage & support college and departmental websites, working with University Communications to incorporate best practices, and with other constituencies to understand audience needs; evaluating sites' analytics to assess engagement
Manage emerging issues and crisis communications: Provide counsel and help shape strategies to respond to issues and crises
Write and edit for a variety of media including the web, digital magazines, newsletters and other properties, speeches and marketing efforts
Network and coordinate efforts with communicators across campus, including University Communications marketing, news services, and issues management staff; other college lead communicators; and a wide range of professional communicators in areas ranging from admissions to the Alumni Association, DASA and the annual fund office
Align strategic communications across the college to ensure a consistent, branded college identity
Manage and distribute college-level messages to students, faculty and staff, including emails and digital signage using the campus billboard system
Manage the marketing and communications budget to achieve the strategic goals of the college in a cost effective manner
Serve as a member of the Administrative Leadership Team and the Executive Leadership Team, participating in strategic planning and operations decisions in support of the college's mission and vision for teaching, research, and engagement
Other Work/Responsibilities:

Minimum Experience/Education:
Requires a relevant post-baccalaureate degree with a minimum of three (3) years or greater of related professional experience, or a relevant undergraduate degree and a minimum of five (5) years or greater of relevant experience may be substituted for the advanced degree.
Required Qualifications:
Prior experience leading, working in, or collaborating with a creative team, including but not limited to writers (news, publications, and online), web designers, photographers, and/or videographers
Demonstrated ability to successfully lead, manage, and supervise staff of varied talents; fostering an environment of teamwork and collaboration
Collaborative management and working style
Ability to articulate the role of marketing, communications, and strategic positioning to internal stakeholders
Ability to demonstrate professionalism and contribute to fostering a positive work/learning environment
Exceptional interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a high level of dependability, excellence in problem solving, superior attention to detail, and ability to think strategically
Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, supervision, and guidance to an extensive constituency of service providers and users at all levels in the college
Experience with website content management, using relevant tools and technologies (such as WordPress, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc.)
Experience with the strategic management of social media channels (Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, etc.) and tools (Hootsuite, etc.)
Experience with budget management
Expected to bring forward-thinking and creative approach to using technology and a wide range of media to comprehensively address the communication and marketing needs of the college
