Job Description:

General Summary:

The Program Director for Employer Relations is responsible for creating and managing strategies that:

Articulate and promote the unique potential of SPU students to employers.

Develop relationships with local, regional, and national employers for the purpose of expanding internship and career opportunities for SPU students.

Facilitate connections with employers and SPU students, creating a range of on and off campus, live and virtual activities and programs through which students and employers may connect and interact.

Increase the number of employers and community partners interested in educating, mentoring, and hiring SPU students and alumni.

Include a strong component for implementing diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, plus facilitating employment and internship opportunities for underrepresented students and those without robust social capital and/or networks.

The Program Director manages student staff (undergraduate); develops and maintains strong relationships with faculty, staff, and employers; teaches career courses; gives presentations in classes; and provides career and vocational discernment counseling to students and alumni.

The Program Director is highly successful at developing relationships with diverse communities, understanding the landscape of diversity, equity and inclusion, and implementing initiatives to address inequity or injustice.

As a member of the CCC team in the Division of Student Life, the Program Director contributes to the development and implementation of highly effective, integrated career and employment services for undergraduate students and alumni of Seattle Pacific University (SPU).

Job Duties:

Employer Relations Program Direction:

Directs CCC programming and serves as the key decision maker in employer relations to scale efforts for a positive career development experience for all students and alumni. Furthers the CCC's Internships for All Initiative. Specifically responsible for:

Management of Employer Outreach and Development, including:

Research and identify prospective employers; network and develop relationships and strategies that increase employer presence on campus and virtually, and internship and employment opportunities for SPU students and alumni.

Serve as a consultant to employers desiring to recruit SPU students and alumni. Recommend recruitment strategies, market CCC services, and connect employers with appropriate faculty and students. Facilitate successful recruiting experiences through regular and ongoing communication with employers and students, with particular emphasis on the identification of key DEI employers.

Oversee marketing activities to promote employer events to students, faculty and staff, including:

Send weekly e-newsletters to students delineating career opportunities.

Promote and publicize CCC services, programs, and events through posters, email campaigns, social media, and other online and print options.

Ensure the CCC website and web pages are regularly updated with employer events.

Collaborate with Alumni Relations, the Center for Applied Learning, Advancement, Faculty, and other key constituents to build a career network of SPU alumni and community members willing to provide students with career education, mentoring, networking, volunteer opportunities, and jobs and internships.

In coordination with the Office & Events Coordinator, oversee logistics for employer relations events: reservations, catering, tables, a/v, balloons, directional signage, sandwich boards, table tents, etc. as needed.

Compile post-event reports, maintain event files in SharePoint.

Keep abreast of national and local market trends and stakeholder interests. Develop connections that correlate with employment data, student interests and faculty recommendations.

Represent the CCC and SPU both on and off-campus and assist with other duties as required or assigned.

Management of Employer Relations Operations, including:

Develop, coordinate and implement live and virtual employer visits including on-campus interviews, information tables, information sessions, recruiter presentations in classes and all employer-related events including job fairs, networking mixers and employer panels. Collaborate with Office and Events Coordinator to provide all logistical support needed.

Foster collaboration with key constituencies including employers, alumni, parents, faculty, student groups, and campus departments to create professional development activities that will improve the employability and career success of SPU students.

Manage and oversee Handshake, the career center data management system, including job postings and employer accounts. Manage and oversee Falcon Connect, the online SPU networking platform, plus keep abreast of new technologies and system upgrades in order to provide state-of-the-art online services and resources to employers, students, alumni, and internal users. Become a Handshake and Falcon Connect super-user, knowing how to best utilize the systems to efficiently run operations and advance their usage across campus.

Provide robust programming to meet the needs of students, with specific attention to underrepresented students and communities and DEI.

Staff Management:

Student Staff Management

: Hires, trains, supervises & motivates student staff members (undergraduate) to help create a positive career development experience for all students and alumni, and further the CCC's Internships for All Initiative. Collaborates with Assistant Director, ensures that supervised students are effectively trained in key career development skills, and able to support undergraduate students in class visits, CCC-taught career classes, career appointments, and CCC programming and events.

Teaching, Class Presentations, Career Counseling, & Event Management:

Teaching:

Teaches career-related classes .

Collaborates with the Assistant Director to create curriculum, creates & revises Canvas shells as needed.

Class Presentations & Career/Vocational Discernment Counseling

: Gives presentations in classes on request and provides individual and group career counseling for SPU students and alumni on the following topics: resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn, major & career exploration, vocational discernment, networking & internship/job search, interview prep, mock interviews, salary negotiation. Interprets self-assessments for students and alumni both individually and in groups or classes.

CCC & Campus Events

: Creates, manages, and develops plans for their specific programmatic area. Assists with organizing or participating in a variety of CCC events or programs. Participates in SPU and campus-wide events, such as new student orientation, parent orientation, transfer orientation, graduation events, and other events as assigned.

Relationships:

Cultivates strong departmental relationships internally with staff, faculty and students, and externally in the community to expand CCC's reach and obtain positive vocational and career outcomes for students through CCC programs.

Requirements:

Competitive candidates will be:

Knowledgeable of the local, regional and national employment community and recruiting practices.

Resourceful and creative and possess a high degree of problem-solving ability in all areas of responsibility.

Self-starting and able to devise methods for accomplishing goals and tasks with minimum supervision.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Communication, Business, Marketing, Education, Psychology, or related field required.

Master's degree or commensurate experience in Student Personnel Services, Counseling, Guidance, Business, Organizational Development, Human Resources, or related field

preferred

Employer Relations & Career Development Experience:

Three years of experience in higher education, marketing, recruiting, and/or human resources, or commensurate skills and abilities. Or three years of career development and vocational discernment experience including career counseling, employer relations, or other key programmatic area.

Two years of experience teaching in a higher education setting, or commensurate experience.

One year of project management, administrative, or supervisory experience, including hiring, evaluating, training and mentoring of staff and programs.

Excellent organizational, project management, creative problem solving, and public speaking skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.

A demonstrated track record of working innovatively and cross-departmentally with colleagues, faculty, other departments and/or the employment community.

Demonstrated ability to coordinate team efforts toward strategic objectives and goals.

Experience in utilizing career counseling techniques and assessments, such as Career Launch, PathwayU, Dependable Strengths, StrengthsFinder, etc.

Knowledge of innovative best practices and technologies in college career centers specifically around employer engagement preferred,

Experience with current social media, including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok and Twitter.

Proven track record of successfully working with diverse communities and creating programs to address needs of BIPOC, first generation, LGBTQIA , international student, female, and other underrepresented communities. Strong multicultural competency and demonstrated ability to foster an inclusive climate for all stakeholders (e.g. students, staff, faculty, organizations, employers).

Software and Equipment:

Working knowledge of PCs and PC-based software programs, including computerized career guidance software. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including PowerPoint, Office, Teams, Outlook), Zoom, Web-based data management systems such as Handshake and Falcon Connect.

Other Considerations:

A comprehension of and commitment to the educational and spiritual objectives of Seattle Pacific University and an understanding of how those relate to career development.

An understanding of the vocational discernment process and the concept of work as a calling.

Some local travel is expected for career treks to employers as well as attendance at meetings and programs that cannot be accommodated during the normal eight-hour workday.

Additional Information:

Position will remain open until filled.

This position is 32 hours per week for 11 months of the year. The CCC is closed during the month of July.

Salary: $41,066 per year

This is considered a full time position with excellent benefits. SPU pays the employee premium for medical, dental, and vision insurance. SPU makes contributions to an employee HSA account and to a retirement account after one year of eligibility in the plan. Tuition discount program available for the employee and qualified immediate family members.
