Summary:
The Director Consumer Insights Strategy serves as a key strategic partner to the cross-functional team and oversees development and application of consumer and business insights. The Director must be a forward thinker; challenging the status quo and leveraging research to support previously unidentified space and strategic decisions. The Director's team will provide Insight & Strategy leadership for Tyson Foods’ retail and foodservice base businesses through extensive experience understanding and application of front-end consumer research techniques, both quantitative and qualitative. The Director will leverage a breadth of expertise to understand consumer needs and market dynamics as well as identify innovation opportunities and build brand health. The person must be equally comfortable with tangible quantitative research and consumer business strategy and have the ability to influence and grow the team's skills in these areas. This individual must have comfort presenting strategic recommendations to officers of the organization and be influential in sharing consumer-based brand strategy recommendations. The Director should consistently demonstrate holistic thinking strategic agility and leadership with all levels of the organization.
Responsibilities:
The Director of Consumer Insights Strategy is responsible for developing and leading the consumer learning agenda and ensuring that consumer understanding is at the foundation of all strategy. This person will report to the Vice President Consumer Insights, Analytics, and Sensory. The Director will lead a team responsible for the development and leadership of the consumer learning agenda for iconic brands like Hillshire Farm, Ball Park, and Jimmy Dean.
Specifically, the Director will:
Establish a consumer-centric organization by distilling key consumer and market trends to drive effective consumer-centric marketing plans.
Assist in preparation of marketing plans and long- and short-term strategies to drive business objectives.
Proactively uncover innovative research methods to enable quicker consumer-informed decision making.
Supervise execution and application of primary and secondary research.
Lead team in consumer testing protocol to enable learning within innovation process.
Work in cross-functional brand teams with marketing research and development sales, supply chain on-site suppliers, ad agencies and creative services.
Build a culture of consumer focus through thought leadership organizational training proactive trend presentations and recruiting activities.
Manage and develop professional direct reports.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelors Degree in Marketing or related field required Masters Degree preferred.
Experience: 12 plus years of relevant experience with minimum of 6 years at a client-side branded consumer-packaging-goods company. Minimum of 2 years with professional direct reports. Food or beverage industry experience required.
Special Skills: Excellent knowledge of marketing strategy and market research fundamentals including primary secondary consumer research syndicated research positioning communication development and strategic business analysis. Demonstrated success in leveraging consumer knowledge and insights to drive business results. Experienced reporting to senior executives. Excellent planning and project management skills. A highly motivated leader with the ability to devise an excellent solution in unstructured situations.
Supervisory: Experience leading a team with 2 plus direct reports.
Travel: Up to 12 trips per year
