 The

Internal Communications Manager is responsible for developing, implementing

(through several channels) and leading an internal communication strategy for

Virginia Mason. This includes facilitating the delivery of key messages and

developing strategic communication plans, which drive successful communications

practices across the organization.

The manager oversees the production and distribution of several internal

communications vehicles, including V-Net headlines (intranet site) and News

Briefs (online newsletter for managerial and professional staff). This position

works closely with key contacts in departments throughout VM to increase staff

engagement with the organization’s values, and to promote best practice

communications within, between and among teams. With each communication, the

manager ensures all messages are coordinated and streamlined, and fit with

medical center guidelines.

The

Internal Communications Manager will have substantial work experience in

organizational communications. The manager must have demonstrated success in

the development and implementation of internal communications tools and

techniques, strategies and plans. The manager will be working closely with

multiple stakeholders and will possess strong presentation skills, experience

in project management, and the ability to work independently.

This position requires excellent written and oral communication and

interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop excellent working

relationships with VM staff and other stakeholders.

Key

activities include:

Continuing and enhancing a comprehensive internal

communications program.

Ensuring timely production, distribution and

maintenance of internal communications vehicles, such as V-Net headlines

and News Briefs.

Delivering effective vehicles for executive

communications, such as town halls and staff forums.

Serving as a strategic adviser to executives and key

stakeholders on important organizational communications initiatives.

Executing internal communications campaigns

aligned with organizational objectives.

Ensuring key messages are reinforced at all

levels of the organization.

Coaching others on internal communications

best practices.

Serving as communications liaison during

crisis communications and command center activity.

Measuring effectiveness of communications

on a regular basis and recommending improvements as necessary.

Synthesizing and segmenting complex

information into concise, easy to understand copy (emphasis on creative

thinking, not creative writing).

Working closely with key contacts in

departments throughout VM to increase staff engagement with the

organization’s values.

Acting as focal point for coordinating

internal communications across the organization.

This position requires at least five to seven years’ experience in

organizational communications and a four-year degree in Communications,

Marketing or Business Administration and health care experience is preferred.

Proven skills are needed in long-range internal communications planning and

application of communications theory. Program analysis and evaluation are also

required. Strong writing, editing and organizational skills are a must. The

Internal Communications Manager must possess extensive experience working with

senior leadership, and be able to work well in team environments and under

deadline pressure. Expertise in measuring the effectiveness of different

internal communications strategies and approaches is critical.

Preferred qualifications include advanced course work in communications
