invites applications for a
Videographer (Editor II)
. The Videographer will report to the Creative Services Manager and serve as the lead videographer for the University of Montana (UM) and as a post-production editor to create cinema-quality storytelling videos, commercials, and web content highlighting the university.
The Videographer is responsible for operating cinema cameras, advanced audio, lighting equipment and editing. Strong pre-production and editing experience are a must. As the Videographer you must be able to utilize discretion and good judgment in representing the university while interfacing with clients, subjects, and the greater university/Missoula community. You will work closely and collaborate with colleagues to promote and adhere to UM’s branded elements in order to reinforce consistent tone and storytelling across the university's channels.
This position requires the incumbent develop expert ability to edit and capture high-quality video with SONY cinema cameras; mastery in a range of video-related software, including but not limited to, Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop; and become well established in distributing web video across social media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
Key Responsibilities
Edit content using Adobe Creative Suite software
Produce storytelling video content support every facet of video production
Archive and/or pull clips from video database/servers/hard drives
Help source, curate, create, edit, and manage video publishing on social platforms
Archive content using workflow protocols
Ensure technical specs compliment creative elements
Interact with departments, clients, and subjects directly or via written or interpersonal communication
Maintain a current understanding of the updates on video creation, video storytelling, documentary style commercials and cinematography
Must maintain company video/audio equipment
Working nights and weekends on occasion
Required Skills
Ability to edit and capture high-quality video with SONY cinema cameras.
Proficiency in a range of video-related software, including but not limited to, Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop.
Advanced knowledge of web video distribution for social media platforms with a focus on Instagram.
Experience with distributing web video across social media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
A keen ear for music, soundtracks, sound effects, and their role in storytelling videos.
Work remotely and independently on production as needed.
Ability to work in a fast-paced high-pressure environment and collaborate effectively as a team member on deadlines.
Must be able to lift and carry equipment, which requires physical demands and mobility.
Must be team-oriented and have experience working in mission or research-driven institutions Strong communication and organization skills, including research, writing, fact-checking, proofreading skills, and attention to detail.
Self-motivated and work effectively under deadline pressure as a team member or independently while coordinating multiple tasks
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience in journalism, film, cinematography or related fields
Minimum 2 years’ experience working in film/video production
Current and historical knowledge (and interest) in western Montana and Missoula
Knowledge of Instagram Reels
Drone experience with a FAA Part 107 license to fly drones commercially
Love for working and living in the outdoors and changing weather that comes with western Montana
