Position Summary

The Senior Practice Development Manager will serve as a trusted advisor to the global real estate group (approximately 700 attorneys and across 40 offices) and global practice chairs, while providing the highest level of service in daily operations and business management.

Duties & Responsibilities

Supports the Real Estate Practice in delivering strategic business development, practice management, and cross-office initiatives on a global scale, working closely with colleagues in various parts of the world by identifying and creating internal efficiencies, providing optimal practice tools and resources to attorneys

Facilitates the annual business planning process, including drafting of strategic plans for the practice group, executing on related projects and initiatives, and tracking success against plans

Partners with assigning attorneys, practice leadership and department timekeepers, as needed, to improve attorney utilization and manage workflow at all levels in response to client requests

Oversees practice management initiatives, including coordination of staffing, identification of training programs, and other administrative tasks

Supports the attraction, development, and retention of attorneys through firmwide staffing platforms, alignment of talent management with overall practice strategy, and successful integration of lateral attorneys

Partners closely with the firm’s Professional Development team to identify, manage, and deploy attorney training programs

Organizes regularly-scheduled practice group conference calls, as well as initiates following-up on specific action items arising from those discussions

Gathers and analyzes market research and analysis on targets/sectors, as needed, identifying areas of opportunity and action plans

Prepares and leads presentations for internal and client facing presentations in a variety of forums, including internal meetings, client presentations, and others

Manages the lateral attorney onboarding process at all levels for the department

Collaborates with regional and practice group managers and the business development team to provide strategic direction in connection with Real Estate related proposal requests and RFPs, including tracking and reporting on win/loss outcomes and identifying areas of improvement

Oversees content development for practice group resources, including newsletters and department-wide communications

Supervises a team of marketers who oversee the day-to-day marketing, events and communications need for the Global Practice, including:

Oversees practice resources and materials, including practice descriptions, experience databases, and client lists

Oversees external and internal events related to client educational forums, webinars, sponsorships, social events, or other networking programs for the group and evaluate ROI

Oversees practice-specific sponsorships and events

Oversees submissions for directory and ranking authorities, such as Chambers, Legal 500, PERE, etc.

Assists with a variety of other short- and long-term projects and attorney requests

Collaborates with marketing professionals throughout the firm, including the communications team, events team, and design team

Skills & Competencies

Provide outstanding client service, meet high quality standards for services, and meet or exceed client expectations; proactive in seeking innovative ways in which to help others

Ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines, adapt to a fast-paced, high-pressure environment to achieve business goals and objectives

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), professional demeanor, and presentation; 

solid composition, research and editing skills

Highly motivated, self-starter who can work well under minimal supervision, as well as take a proactive approach in being team-oriented

High attention to detail, outstanding organizational skills, and the ability to manage time effectively

Ability to maintain composure, positive outlook, and professionalism

Demonstrated ability to work well, be influential, and communicate effectively with senior leadership and staff, including presenting ideas in a clear, succinct manner

Qualifications & Prior Experience

Bachelor’s degree required; Masters or JD preferred

Candidate will have a minimum eight years of experience in marketing or business development within a law firm or professional services firm

Proficiency in Windows-based software and Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook

Exceptional computer skills with the ability to learn new software applications quickly
