Position Summary:

The Associate Director, Consumer Insights & Strategy – Prepared Foodservice Innovation serves as a key strategic partner to the cross-functional team and oversees development and application of patron, operator and business insights. They must be a forward thinker; challenging the status quo and leveraging research to support previously unidentified space and strategic decisions.

This person will provide research leadership for Tyson Foods’ Prepared Foodservice business through extensive experience, understanding and application of front-end research techniques (quantitative & qualitative). They will leverage a breadth of expertise to understand patron needs, operator needs and market dynamics, as well as to identify innovation opportunities. They must be equally comfortable with tangible quantitative research and business strategy, and have the ability to influence and grow the team’s skills in these areas.

This individual must have comfort presenting strategic recommendations to officers of the organization, and be influential in sharing patron/operator-based strategy recommendations. They should consistently demonstrate holistic thinking, strategic agility, and leadership with all levels of the organization.

Job Responsibilities:

The Associate Director of Consumer Insights & Strategy – Prepared Foodservice Innovation is responsible for developing and leading the patron and operator learning agendas, and ensuring that patron and operator understanding is at the foundation of all strategy for Prepared Foodservice Innovation. This individual will report to the Director of Consumer Insights - Innovation.

Relocation assistance may be available for those candidates who qualify based on the Tyson relocation policy.

The Associate Director will be responsible for the development and leadership of the consumer learning agenda for the Prepared Foodservice businesses. Specifically, the Associate Director will:

Establish a consumer-centric organization by distilling key patron and operator insights as well as market trends to drive effective patron and operator-centric plans.

Assist in long- and short-term strategies to drive business objectives.

Proactively uncover innovation research methods to enable quicker, patron/operator-informed decision making.

Execute primary research, analyze syndicated sources (Datassential, Technomic, Crest and Supplytrack) and synthesize learning be able to tell a cohesive, actionable story.

Lead team in consumer testing protocol to enable learning within innovation process.

Effectively manage the Foodservice Insights budget to proactively address both immediate and forward-looking strategic needs.

Provide Insights leadership to cross-functional teams and act as a strategic partner with Marketing, Research and Development, Culinary, Channel Development, Sales, on-site suppliers, ad agencies, and creative services.

Build a culture of consumer focus through thought leadership, organizational training, proactive trend presentations, and recruiting activities.

Qualifications & Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing or related field required, Master’s Degree preferred.

10 years of relevant experience, with minimum of 4 years at a manufacturer-side, branded consumer-packaging-goods company. Innovation and/or Foodservice experience a plus.

Excellent knowledge of marketing strategy and consumer insights fundamentals including primary & secondary consumer research, syndicated research, positioning & communication development, and strategic business analysis.

Highly proficient in the following:

Consumer and need state segmentation, profiling, and immersion

Meal Occasion landscaping and A&U, category assessments, category choice drivers/barriers

Concept/Product development and validation

Test and learn approaches

Cultural/Lifestyle trends, eating trends and food industry reports     

Demonstrated success in leveraging consumer knowledge and insights to drive business results.

Must be able to develop and communicate objective point-of-view, be seen as strategic thought leader on team, and build constructive rapport with internal clients and outside research suppliers

Excellent planning and project management skills.

A highly motivated leader with the ability to devise excellent solutions in unstructured situations.
