An exciting opportunity to join this growing trademark licensing business unit within Shell, with a significant external focus and both strategic and operational components.
Shell started a non-fuels licensing business to commercialize the $49bln Shell brand by licensing consumer products and services, expanding our brands reach into innovative, cleaner energy and mobility solutions. The business seeks to build brand equity and value via products and services which are strategically relevant and can grow to scale. This global business has reached over 200 product lines in 3 years from start-up and seeks to exponentially accelerate growth in the coming years. In addition to external licensing, there are a large internal merchandise operation and brand protection activities.
Senior Commercial Advisor
What is the role
This is a customer-led business (B2B2C) and a fantastic opportunity for a commercially minded sales and operation professional to work in a global role focused on delivery. You must be comfortable defining strategy, motivating internal teams and external licensees, and rolling up your sleeves to get the job done!
As a Senior Commercial Advisor, you will be responsible for the following business objectives and duties:
To manage Shells relationship with Licensees in terms of joint business growth planning, building licensee competence and protecting the brand at all times given the inherent risks of licensing as a business model.
Support and advise licensees on various sales and marketing areas including joint pitches (with multiple licensees) to key retailers, influencing Shells strategy on the Shell Amazon store and helping licensees develop high quality marketing (esp on social/digital media, PR etc). Key goal is to ensure contract value is captured and optimized over the long term in partnership with the licensees.
Work closely with other parts of Shell to leverage internal sales channels and networks for licensees to bring products into/through Shell’s key account relationships/channels while ensuring a benefit to both the Licensing line of business and the relevant Shell line of business, e.g., Mobility, Lubricants
New Business Development: Work with Licensing Agent on finding and evaluating new Licensees
Operations: Ensure Licensee operates within the terms of the TMLA, complying with Shell brand standards, product approvals, contract management, royalty invoicing, and assurance activities.
Marketing and long-term planning: research relevant products, industries, and Shell proof-points to help create integrated licensee Value Propositions; work closely with licensees in product development.
Requirements
We are searching for a Seasoned Sales and Marketing professional with a strong background working within B2C sales teams in the US especially; must be familiar with sales lead generation, managing large retailer relationships and listing / conversion processes. A good overall understanding of US consumer products retail business is a must, given the nature of the role.
What we need from you
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Candidate must have a minimum 8 (eight) of years working experience in Sales and Marketing in FMCG (Fast-moving consumer goods), retail or any related industry in the US, candidates who have worked directly with large, US chain retailers (vs. those with only experience working with traders/distributors).
Bachelor’s Degree in any related field
Commercial Acumen - Must be fluent in realizing business opportunities and delivery; material B2B negotiations and contract development; (ongoing) customer management experience, including P&L understanding.
Sharp thinker and effective communicator: must demonstrate the ability to take complex subjects and quickly distill concepts across broad audiences
Marketing, brand, and Customer Value Proposition development
Solid stakeholder management (influence and persuasion) skills, especially in complex and large organizations.
Proven track record of delivering through others through a trusted advisor approach.
Sense of Organization & Effectiveness
Courageous: demonstrated ability to use failure as a powerful learning tool; not constrained by the status quo.
A self-starter attitude with demonstrated resilience and problem-solving skills in a variety of situations.
