invites applications for a
Director of Communications
. The Director of Communications will oversee all communications for the Mansfield Center, using judgment and discretion to implement a strategy that reflects the Center’s leadership mission and vision. The individual assigned to this position will quickly develop a clear understanding of the Mansfield legacy and its importance to the University of Montana (UM), the state of Montana, and the nation to operate in multiple communication channels (including social media, print, broadcast, and media relations). This is a high-profile position, requiring the ability to build positive and trust based relationships with a variety of stakeholders. This position will hire, train, and oversee the communications assistant as well as student interns to support social and web platforms and events while engaging with other staff for a team approach to communication. This position will report to the Executive Director of the Mansfield Center.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Highly autonomous decision-making to implement a communications strategy to support and advance the Center’s strategic initiatives
Oversee social media and communication channels including the website, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, and relevant blogs and press;
Develop and maintain professional relationships with media and communications partners as well as critical Mansfield Center stakeholders
Serve as an essential member of the leadership team on organizational development and leadership, including strategic planning, fundraising, and staffing
Liaise with UM communications team (including design and branding services, and ensure that the Mansfield story is aligned with and highlighted in campus communications)
Compose and distribute communications materials such as press releases, talking points, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
Plan, amplify, and execute Mansfield Center events, engaging with campus and community stakeholders to maximize success and partnerships
Draw from evaluation and monitoring data to analyze and implement feedback
Upon completion of training, the incumbent will have a refined understanding of Mansfield legacy and support of vision and mission related to democracy and global engagement.

Position Details
Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package

Work schedule is flexible depending on project needs.
Salary for this position is $70,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.
Required Skills
Demonstrated experience as a consummate relationship-builder with ability to quickly develop highly effective relationships with a level of professionalism conducive for interactions with a wide variety of individuals and groups.
Advanced discretionary and analytical listening, oral, presentation, and written communication skills with an ability to design, develop, and/or disseminate a wide variety of communication methods while being cognizant of the audience.
Demonstrated skills necessary to provide dynamic leadership and effective supervision of employees responsible for varying assignments, while supporting employees in a collaborative and collegial work environment.
Demonstrated skills in effectively utilizing various social media platforms and ability to learn and implement new strategies as social media evolves.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality while working with sensitive information.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with high level stakeholders in government and democracy efforts.
Established relationships with local, state, and/or national media.
