Blockbuster has been trying to shift some of its marketing efforts towards game console sales and the video game rental market. The movie rental chain is trying to woo owners of Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo DS machines in an effort to attract their gaming dollars. The move follows Blockbuster’s recent unsuccessful attempt to acquire Circuit City. Blockbuster is expanding its presence in the video game retail market by making gaming software and hardware available in all its stores and also adding more rental titles and copies for additional gaming platforms. “We’re committed to offering a full assortment of everything gamers want in our stores,” said Rod Murray, games merchandising VP. The company is also shaping up new game offers such as an exclusive Sony PS3 movie and game bundle priced at $500 and available in corporate-owned stores. The gaming bundle includes a 40GB Sony PS3 game console, a PS3/Blu-ray DVD remote, a “Spiderman 3” Blu-ray disc, and many more goodies.
