Marcus Brauchli, managing editor of the Wall Street Journal, has resigned from his post after a short stay of just 11 months at the company. Brauchli has confirmed, though, that he will stay on as a consultant for News Corp., which bought the paper four months ago. In a note to the WSJ staff, Brauchli wrote, “Now that the ownership transition has taken place, I have come to believe the new owners should have a managing editor of their choosing. So, today, I am resigning.” According to some media reports, Robert Thomson, the Wall Street Journal’s publisher, is expected to fill the vacant post. Meanwhile, Rupert Murdoch is close to completing a deal worth about $580 million to buy Newsday from the Tribune Co., a deal which would add yet another newspaper to News Corp.’s media conglomerate.
