Following a spate of setbacks and generally slumping fortunes, Motorola Inc. has brought in David W. Dorman, former chief executive of AT&T, as the non-executive chairman of the company. The announcement comes two days after Motorola moved to end its long-standing tiff with investor Carl Icahn, agreeing to seat two of his nominees on its board. Dorman will assume the post when Edward Zander, chairman and former chief executive, retires at the company’s annual meeting. Dorman, a veteran in the field of communications with nearly three decades of experience, has previously been associated with Sprint, Pacific Bell, and SBC. Dorman is presently a managing director and senior adviser at Warburg Pincus and Co. He also serves on the boards of CVS, Yum Brands Inc., and the Georgia Tech Foundation.
