Apple Inc. is planning to start a unique service wherein consumers can buy iPods and iPhones at higher prices to gain unlimited access to a music library, according to a report by Financial Times. The service, which is still under negotiations between the Apple executives and music labels, is scheduled to be held next week. The report, further citing unnamed music industry sources, revealed that Apple might also offer a monthly music subscription. A year ago, CEO Steve Jobs told Reuters that “Apple had no plans to offer a music subscription service.” If this service is launched, it would definitely mark a drastic change in Apple’s strategy. Analysts also state that the slow pace of growth in the sales of digital music players might instigate Apple to introduce new models and features soon.
