Yahoo! Buzz, launched two weeks ago in the beta phase, is already creating ripples in the online social news service waters. Recent statistics reveal that about 16 million referrals have been sent to the publishers since it surfaced, clearly indicating that the site may well have an overwhelming swell over Digg in the near future. Analysts further suggest that though the numbers might not indicate the collapse of sites like Digg and Mixx due to the advent of Buzz, but it does imply the scope of the social media getting bigger and better. Sources also say that Yahoo! Buzz, being an all-out news service, sent more traffic to news and media sites than Digg, which sent only 10% to media publishers of the 75% traffic it saw, owing to its more broad-based content. Although publishers had record traffic streaming up to their sites because of Buzz, analysts state that it should incorporate ads into its site to maintain its upper hand over other sites.
