Pepsi Bottling Group Inc. of Somers, NY, and PepsiCo Inc. of Purchase, NY, have announced their proposed acquisition of Sobol-Aqua JSC, a privately held Russian beverage company, through their joint venture in Russia, PR Beverages Ltd. The joint undertaking will buy Sobol, including a production facility based in Novosibirsk, Russia, that makes the Sobol brand and currently co-packages various Pepsi products. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter, PepsiCo said, though financial figures were not revealed by the company. In a statement, Pepsi Bottling remarked that the deal “jumpstarts our manufacturing presence in the region and facilitates our expansion into Siberia and Eastern Russia.”
