MySpace has launched a test version of an applications gallery wherein developers have been given a green light to build applications and programs for MySpace users. In doing so, MySpace is following the lead of rival Facebook, which introduced a similar feature on its site last May. According to PC World, the primary aim of the testing phase is to allow users to check the functionality of the service and report any bugs for correction. The plan is for each application to have its own profile page and feature a single-click installation process. The company further reports that the gallery will comply with the norms of Google’s OpenSocial initiative. MySpace claims that since the launch of the gallery last month, about 5,000 developers have been creating applications. In comparison, Facebook’s developer platform has received about 14,000 applications thus far, indicating its general acceptance by developers and users alike.
