CBS Radio will be taking over AOL’s Internet radio service, although AOL will continue to program some of its stations, according to a significant deal between the two companies. The move is in keeping with AOL’s attempts at scaling back in light of an increase in the government-set royalty rate and its own future plans to transform itself from an Internet service provider into a web giant. About 200 AOL radio stations will be provided with content from and operated by CBS. At the same time, AOL will work with CBS on a combined network of 350-odd stations to redesign its new player for audio and provide support for Mac users which will include easy navigation of stations, follow-up links to relevant sites, and sharing and purchasing of songs, movie tickets, and more.
