Sheryl Sandberg is hired by Facebook as its chief operating officer, although the top post will be held by Mark Zuckerberg himself, amidst speculation of a vice-versa affair. Sandberg will be leaving Google where she most recently served as vice-president of global sales and operations to serve as the COO of Facebook, a post last held by Owen Van Natta. Sandberg’s departure is a blow to Google where her job will be taken over by David Fischer, who is serving as the vice-president of online sales and operations at the company. Sandberg will handle duties of expanding Facebook overseas and also foresee Facebook’s marketing, human resources, and privacy departments. Sandberg had reportedly met Zuckerberg at a Christmas party and later at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland where discussions regarding Facebook took place.
