The Sony’s Vaio notebook, the Sony Ericsson mobile, and personal digital assistant (PDA) were ranked the most environmentally-friendly electronic gadgets, according to a survey by Greenpeace. The survey “Searching for Greener Electronics” tested 37 products that 14 electronic brands submitted as the greenest of their lot and rated them on a 10-point scale on the criteria of energy efficiency, use of toxic substances, and recyclability. The Greenpeace survey singled out Apple’s latest MacBook Air laptop, and Nokia’s Evolve phone, as examples of toxic-free and innovative products launched, indicating that though the industry is taking steps to go green, their goal is far from over. Nintendo was slammed with a zero rating by the study after it failed to disclose its environmental data. Sony is also reported to ramp up its ad campaigns towards recycling old electronics and is launching various green initiatives towards that end.
