Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates has set up a profile on the social network LinkedIn in a bid to encourage young people to pursue careers in science and technology. Reports say that Gates has received more than 2,000 responses to his question: How can we do more to encourage young people to pursue careers in science and technology? LinkedIn is also promoting a new feature called "status," which will allow its 19 million members to post their current activities. Gates' status feature will say, "Bill is checking out LinkedIn." The billionaire is also a Facebook member, but rumor mills claim that he stopped using Facebook due to about 8,000 friend requests every day. Meanwhile, some industry analysts believe that Microsoft should look to acquire startups like LinkedIn instead of wooing Yahoo Inc.
