IBM has named Michael Gerentine its new vice president of global channel and solutions marketing. He replaces Debra Thompson, who was moved to IBM’s new Enterprise Software group last month. Gerentine will be responsible for the solutions marketing team as well as IBM’s business partner organization channels. Gerentine, a long-time veteran of Armonk, NY-based IBM, was the vice president of global channel and SMB marketing in the IBM Software group prior to his present posting. His reassignment comes in the wake of the recent reorganization of IBM’s server and storage business. Gerentine’s previous position will now be filled by Sean Jones, who until this week was the marketing director for IBM Software group’s CIO, line of business, and mid-market program. Gerentine’s career has also included time at Covasoft and Vignette, although he first worked with IBM back in 1978.
