Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and the Cleantech Group have announced the launch of a web-based tool to help Wal-Mart achieve more environmentally friendly operations. The “Cleantech Accelerator Project” will allow Wal-Mart and Cleantech to join forces in deploying new technologies to maintain the ecological balance of the environment, in turn enhancing performance and reducing costs. Some innovative ideas that Wal-Mart is considering through the project include wind harvesting and alternative battery technologies. The Cleantech Group will review submissions to the site to determine which ideas might qualify for testing and adoption. The project also adds to Wal-Mart’s current efforts to be more environmentally friendly, including the development of High Efficiency (HE) stores and equipping all new stores with light-emitting diode (LED) lights.
