With an aim to end domain name “tasting,” Google Inc. plans to examine domain names that are continually registered and dropped within the five-day grace period to claim refunds. Google’s well-known AdSense program will ban these domains from earning advertising revenues. The grace period option was originally introduced to give companies a chance to rectify legitimate mistakes such as mistyping domain names. However, organizations have exploited this option with a practice called domain name tasting — where an entrepreneur tests different names and short-lists the ones that generate the most revenue. Yahoo! Inc. has already taken measures to prevent the practice and has sued several domain name registration companies over tasting.
