The Washington Post Company has introduced an online magazine for African-Americans. The free magazine, called The Root, includes news and political commentary along with tools for readers to research their family history. Washington Post Chairman Donald Graham and Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. from Harvard University joined hands to launch the magazine. Professor Gates will act as the editor in chief while Lynette Clemetson, a former New York Times reporter, will be the magazine’s managing editor. The site also offers commentary from writers such as Malcolm Gladwell, William Julius Wilson, and John McWhorter, among others.
