Head of eBay Plans to Retire
Date: 01-24-2008
Meg Whitman, chief executive of eBay, is planning to retire after leading the company for 10 years. According to reports, Whitman, 51, has been delegating more responsibilities in the past few months. John Donahoe, president of eBay’s marketplaces division, is expected to take over Whitman’s role. Whitman joined eBay in 1998 when it was three years old, staffed with 30 employees, and had revenues of $86 million. The company now employs 15,000 people and reported $5.97 billion in revenues last year. However, eBay spokesman Hani Durzy called the reports “rumor and speculation.”
