Marketing M&A Activities Reach New Heights in 2007

The marketing sector’s merger and acquisition-related activities increased by 63% in 2007 compared to the previous year, while aggregate deal value almost doubled for a total of $60.3 billion, according to Petsky Prunier LLC’s (PPLLC) annual review. According to its “2007 Year-End Marketing Sector M&A Review,” the number of mergers and acquisitions totaled a record 758 deals in 2007. PPLLC defines the marketing sector as a combination of four segments -- digital services, direct and database, digital content and commerce, and marketing technology. Digital services saw the maximum number of deals, 225, totaling $16.2 billion in value. Microsoft’s acquisition of aQuantive and Google’s purchase of DoubleClick were among the largest transactions in 2007.
