MySpace has reached an agreement with attorneys general from 49 states and the District of Columbia to unveil a new plan for ensuring the safety of minors on the Internet. The new Multi-State Working Group on Social Networking has released a ''Joint Statement on Key Principles of Social Networking,'' which is expected to receive industry-wide approval. This common set of principles relates to website design and functionality, education for parents, law enforcement cooperation, and online safety tools. Among specific changes, MySpace plans to review every image and video on its site, delete registered sex offenders from the site, allow parents to submit their children's email addresses, provide a 24-hour hotline, and organize an industry-wide Internet Safety Technical Task Force to develop online safety tools.
