Sony BMG Music Entertainment plans to sell its music without copy-protection technology or digital rights management (DRM) through Amazon's MP3 store. This makes Amazon.com the first retailer to have the support of all four major music companies. "Our Amazon MP3 customers will be able to choose from a full selection of DRM-free music downloads from all four major labels and over 33,000 independents that they can play on virtually any music-capable device," said Bill Carr, vice president for digital music at Amazon.com. The news comes on the heels of Sony's launch of Platinum MusicPass, a series of digital album cards that enable consumers to download full-length albums in the form of high-quality MP3 files.
