Wal-Mart Shuts Down Its Movie Download Service
Date: 1-2-2008
Wal-Mart has shut down its movie download service less than a year after its launch. In February last year, Wal-Mart launched its video download service which gave access to movies the same day they were available on DVD. A message on Wal-Mart's video download website said the service was shuttered on December 21. The site informed that consumers who already have bought movies could continue to watch them. However, due to licensing restrictions, they cannot copy or transfer their video files to play on a different computer. According to reports, Wal-Mart had to shut down the business because Hewlett-Packard, a chief technology partner, had decided to discontinue the key infrastructure for the service.
