Rumored merger discussions between News Corporation and LinkedIn seem unlikely, according to Reuters. A British newspaper claimed that Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation and the online social network for professionals were considering a $1 billion deal. However, sources familiar with the matter denied the talks. If such a deal were to happen, LinkedIn would provide the technology and service to connect the business-world readers of Dow Jones publications when Murdoch's $5.6-billion deal for the publisher of The Wall Street Journal closes, which is expected to happen by the end of the year. LinkedIn, which was founded in 2003, is growing exponentially, attracting 5 million U.S. visitors in October alone. Dan Nye, LinkedIn's CEO, denied talks of a merger, saying he wanted to build the company independently.
