Apple Inc. and Twentieth Century Fox have struck a deal for downloadable movie rentals, according to media reports. Both the Financial Times and The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple will allow consumers to rent Fox movies through its digital iTunes Store. These DVD releases can be downloaded on rent for a limited time. Apple will also license its FairPlay digital rights management technology to Fox, which will allow users to transfer the movies to their iPods, iPhones, or personal computers for playback. Apple is expected to formally announce the reported deal on January 14 at the Macworld show.
