Microsoft Corp. has acquired UK-based online mapping service Multimap for an undisclosed amount. This gives the U.S. software giant new mapping technology to complement existing offerings such as Virtual Earth, Live Search, Windows Live services, MSN, and the aQuantive advertising platform. Multimap will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Microsoft and will be integrated into the company's Virtual Earth and Search teams in its Online Services Group. Multimap is one of the UK's top 100 technology companies and offers mapping and location-based services worldwide.
